Whale/Fishing Gear Interactions

Strategic Earth works with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, National Marine Fisheries Service, and the Ocean Protection Council to design and facilitate a series of community conversations with the California Dungeness crab industry regarding whale entanglements in California. This project involves supporting a Working Group comprised of commercial and recreational fishermen, representatives from environmental organizations, and representatives from federal and state agencies charged with developing short- and long-term strategies to reduce the risk of whale entanglements in Dungeness crab fishing gear.
