Exploring Virtual Community Council Meetings
CLIENT NEED
Due to the pandemic, the Cher-Ae Heights Indian Community of Trinidad Rancheria Tribal Council and staff were invested in creating safe alternatives to in-person Community Council meetings. This would allow up to 170 Community Council members to meet while still honoring and upholding Tribal meeting procedures for attendance, voting, and participation.
STRATEGY
Strategic Earth collaborated with Tribal Council, staff, and Tribal members to explore the feasibility of holding virtual Community Council meetings using Zoom. Our team provided Zoom trainings to introduce and build community confidence in using essential Zoom features such as polls and chat to fulfill Tribal meeting procedures. Strategic Earth also provided behind-the-scenes support during two virtual Community Council meetings to test the viability of using Zoom.
KEY RESULTS & OUTCOMES
Tribal Council and staff now have the capacity to host Community Council meetings via Zoom. Strategic Earth developed an internal Zoom training guide for Tribal Council and staff to reference as needed.
