Strategic Earth will be supporting Chevron with tribal engagement during the decommissioning of its off-shore oil platforms.

CLIENT NEED

Chevron is initiating a multi-year process to decommission five off-shore oil platforms and their related on-shore processing facilities in Santa Clara and Point Arguello. They are working with local partners and stakeholders to understand Tribal and community priorities and perspectives as they pertain to the West Coast Decommissioning Program. Additionally, Chevron is seeking inputs on opportunities to invest in the community in order to leave a positive legacy in the region following the decommissioning of its off-shore oil platforms.

STRATEGY

Strategic Earth will support Chevron with engagement efforts to help identify Tribal and community values, perspectives, and priorities as they pertain to the decommissioning process and community investment. A Tribal- and local community-centered needs assessment will be developed to inform engagement strategies to ensure alignment with Tribal/community priorities and perspectives. Strategic Earth is supporting Chevron in the co-creation and implementation of engagement strategies, including listening sessions, community-led coalitions, informal interviews, and small group discussions.

KEY RESULTS AND OUTCOMES

  • A Tribal/community-informed needs assessment and engagement plan identifying how Chevron can effectively communicate their decommissioning efforts with the Santa Barbara County community
  • Meaningful engagement with a range of stakeholders to build relationships between Chevron and community members
  • A clear understanding of Tribal and community priorities and perspectives as they pertain to the West Coast Decommissioning Program and Chevron’s community investments
